The Yoga of…

The word Yoga is derived from the Sanskrit root yuj meaning to bind, join, attach and yoke.

The union or yoking of the body, mind, soul and spirit.

“When all the senses are stilled, when the mind is at rest, when the intellect wavers not–then, say the wise, is reached the highest state. This steady control of the senses and the mind has been defined as yoga. He who attains it is free from delusion.”

– Katha Upanishad 2.6.10-11

The Yoga Sutras by Patanjali are a guide to help you on your spiritual journey.

There are 196 Sutras in four chapters.

The Yoga Sutras contain a set of observances and practices.

8 Limbs of Yoga

  1. Yama: Correct behavior or universal commandments
  2. Niyama: The principles by which you live your own life as in self purification by discipline
  3. Asana: The postures that prepare the body
  4. Pranayama: Rhythmic control of the breath
  5. Pratyahara: Tuning inward rather than focusing senses on outward on exterior objects
  6. Dharana: Concentration
  7. Dhyana: Meditation
  8. Samadhi: State of super-consciousness brought on by profound meditation. Unity or oneness with the object of his meditation

Our Western Culture has come to equate Yoga as a gymnastic exercises that focus on strengthening the muscles and gaining control over their physical body, somehow leave out the controlling of their mind, intellect and the Self. This focus on Asana, or pose or posture, and putting the body above all else leads to imbalance.

Find out how Yoga can help you become Un-Stuck and find balance in your life.

What is Wellness?

Think about the word Wellness.  How does it make you feel? What does it make you think of? What does Wellness look like to you? How would you define Wellness?  Is it simply the absence of disease?

Wellness can be measured on a continuum that is constantly changing while the body tries to seek a balance. Sometimes we feel unwell or out of balance. This could be due to emotional, spiritual, social, environmental, intellectual, occupational, financial and from obvious physical components. This is where many people get stuck. We get stuck in our minds, in our body, in our heart and in our soul. This overwhelm makes it difficult to do anything.

The good news is that making changes in one area can affect all of the other areas. Making your bed, going through the stack of mail, or clearing off your kitchen table could jump-start this process. CranioSacral Therapy is great for finding stillness and gaining clarity when you feel overwhelmed and stuck.
